The District

The Arlington District of Poughkeepsie, New York is one of the most vibrant communities in Dutchess County. Just east of the City of Poughkeepsie, Arlington is home to Vassar College and is the business and community center of a populous residential area.

A rich collection of restaurants serves cuisine from Spain, Vietnam, China, Italy, Japan, Mexico and Greece. Over 12,000 people live within greater Arlington, which includes residential neighborhoods in the City of Poughkeepsie as well as suburban areas to the east and south in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Raymond Avenue (NYS Route 376) runs north-south through the district, which is bordered by Vassar College on the south and Main Street on the north. Although Raymond Avenue is a highly travelled vehicular arterial, the college community and nearby neighborhoods balance that with a strong pedestrian presence.
